Overall I like the newer pictures better, but it's not because of the lack of gas masks this time around. I, like you, thought the gas masks were a strong force in your previous pictures, although possibly too strong - I can see how the idea could be misconstrued as too dark. Darkness and strength I think are similar, but they can sometimes show a stark difference when compared, which I believe it what happened when you compare your new to your old.
I like the direction this is now going in - as for feedback on the new pictures; if it were me I would never block the eyes. The exposed body makes an incredibly strong statement, but to me that statement always need to be conquered and subsequently focused. That’s what the eyes do for me, because you look at the picture and the first thing you are likely to notice is the lighting and the model’s body – then you move to the face and the prop, and strong eyes can make all the difference in softening or hardening the prop in use. But that’s just me. Great job and I look forward to more.
